July 28, 2022 This year, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Ukrainian Statehood for the first time.
The introduction of a new state holiday, which will be celebrated on the day of the baptism of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine on July 28, was proposed last year by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi during the celebrations on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine, reports Ukrinform.
At the same time, the head of state signed the corresponding decree approving the Day of Statehood.
According to him, the starting point of Ukrainian statehood is considered to be the year of foundation of Kyiv, the capital of Kyivan Rus and modern Ukraine. Therefore, the new holiday will be celebrated on the day of the flowering of Ukrainian statehood – on the day of the baptism of Kyivan Rus, the President said.
In its turn, the Verkhovna Rada on May 31, 2022 adopted a law establishing the Statehood Day of Ukraine on July 28 as a public holiday.
It is expected that the law will contribute to establishing the continuity of Ukrainian statehood, protection of interests of Ukraine, preservation of historical justice and elimination of fake narratives by the russian federation as an aggressor state regarding the historical aspects of Ukrainian state formation.
